Moving exhibition from Ukraine on display in Lahti and Lappeenranta

Unissued Diplomas -näyttely Lahden kampuksella.

Unissued Diplomas is a moving exhibition about Ukrainian students who lost their lives in the war against Russia. The exhibition will be on display on the Lahti and Lappeenranta campuses this spring.

The Unissued Diplomas exhibition honours the memory of Ukrainian students who will never graduate because their lives were taken in the Russian invasion. The exhibition tells the story of 36 students through photographs and diplomas.

Exhibition venues:

Lahti campus 5–21 April – main entrance, 2nd floor, hall A
Lappeenranta campus 6–28 April – room 1422, above Noste gallery

“The war in Ukraine affects the university community deeply. We at LUT also want to show our sympathy and remember students who have died in the war and will never receive their diplomas,” says LUT Rector Juha-Matti Saksa.

Unissued Diplomas has been held worldwide and it is organised by Ukrainian students and the Ukrainian Canadian Students’ Union. It has been brought to Finland by Ukrainian exchange student Khrystyna Osadcha, who studies at the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv. Three of the war victims presented in the exhibition were her friends and classmates.

“It is an honour for LAB to join this global exhibition project in memory of Ukrainian students. We hope that as many people as possible will see the exhibition,” says President Turo Kilpeläinen from LAB.

LAB’s students and staff set up the exhibition in Lahti and Lappeenranta.
